If you want to stop receiving these updates: Login to your Kickstarter account. Go to Settings-> Notifications. Scroll down past the newsletter info. Then you'll find a list of all the projects that you have backed. Uncheck the box next to Planet Mercenary and click save. You will no longer be notified by email when we post an update, but you'll still be able to check on the updates by going to the project page.

Defaced 70 Maxims books have arrived. Sandra will be sending out 1000 packages over the next several weeks. If you have any concerns about your package, mail [email protected] but please be patient if Sandra takes a while to answer. Between shipping, editing, and a local convention at the end of this week, she's a bit swamped.

As a reminder: the goal of this update is to provide clear levels of where we are on the various pieces of the project. We know we are behind, but we are making a massively concentrated effort to get this done ASAP.

Component Status 

• Dice - Ordered and Arrived 
• Mayhem Deck - Ordered and Arrived  
• GM Screen – Art is complete and the material has been picked. We’re beginning the process of selecting the tables and getting them laid out for the inside of the screen. This couldn’t be done until all the tables were finalized, which they are right now. 

Planet Mercenary Book Status 

• Rules Text: 100% written. Editing 85% done (+10%). Final chapters being edited.  
• Art: Art is 88% completed (+2%). This would have increased more, but we discovered that we needed to alter the handling of a chapter and that required additional art.  
• Setting Text: 87%. (+2%) Several setting chapters were done over the last two weeks. Only Eina Afa remains of locations. Howard continues to plow through this as fast as he can while still updating the daily comic. We've added a section about Galactic history which will serve as a primer for those who are new to the universe.
• Pre-Gen Adventure: Done. In edited and waiting for layout. 
• Copy-editing: 30% (+15%).  
• Indexing: Not yet begun.

An alternate measure: the book has 22 sections. 

• Sections 1-4 Layout complete.
• Sections 5-6 In layout now 
• Sections 7-12 Sandra is approving edits and attaching art for layout 
• Sections 13-14 are with our editor
• Section 15 is the large locations section which Howard has been working on. Only Eina Afa remains.
• Section - 16 Galactic History -Howard needs to write this.
• Section - 17 Notable Persons and Companies Probably 50% complete
• Section - 18 Small section with Naming characters and tech bits. 90% written.
• Section - 19 Mobs, Mooks, Monsters, probably 50% complete 
• Section 20 (The Game Chief Section) returned from editor, waiting for Sandra To approve edits.
• Section 21 needs a wordsmithing pass from Howard 
• Section 22 (The pre-built adventure) Returned from editor. Waiting for Sandra to approve edits.

End of Month January Update

The art you are looking at is the completed art for the Game Chief screen which comes included in the Company Commander and Commodore level packages. This art will be on the player-facing side of the screen. The GC-facing side will be covered in useful reference tables.

Good news. At the pace the team is working, our goal is to have Planet Mercenary fully laid out by the end of March. This is a soft deadline and it might shift by a week or two, but we wanted to tell you about it. And with the rules all locked into place this deadline is feasible with a lot of work from the entire Planet Mercenary team. 

Here's our tentative plan based on our work the last few weeks:  

• February: Editing and Layout wrapping up. Final art trickles in.  
• March: PDF releases to backers. Errata and errors found (as you fine folks will find such for us to fix). Indexing completed. At the end of March, we go to print. 
• April - June: Printing and delivery. 
• July: Shipping.

Latest report has the Defaced Seventy Maxims books arriving next week. As soon as they do, Sandra will begin shipping out all the orders which do not contain a Planet Mercenary corebook (and will partially ship all those orders for people who opted to pay to split their shipping.) 

There are a lot of orders, so it will be toward the end of February before all packages for this stage are shipped.

• Setting Text: 85%%. (+5%) Several setting chapters were done over the last two weeks. Only three remain. Howard continues to plow through this as fast as he can while still updating the daily comic. 
• Pre-Gen Adventure: Done. In editing and layout. 
• Copy-editing: 15% (+15%).  
• Indexing: Not yet begun.

An alternate measure: the book has 22 sections.

• Sections 5-7 are expected to go to layout by the end of today. 
• Sections 8-10 are with our editor

Pristine Seventy Maxims books have arrived and been shipped to everyone whose order only included a Pristine book. The Defaced Seventy Maxims books should be arriving mid-February and Sandra will then ship out all the orders which do not contain a Planet Mercenary corebook. (and will partially ship all those orders for people who opted to pay to split their shipping.)

Pre-Gen Adventure: Done. In editing and layout.

Copy-editing: Not yet begun

Indexing: Not yet begun.

Big Update: Patrick (our editor) will be leaving the project due to his workload and commitments to Crafty Games. He will be handing off to our new editor who will be getting familiar with the project, and who we will announce in our next update!
