Greetings Backers,
Planetmercenary.com has now been updated with a Shared Resources page and FAQ section. You can now go and submit your favorite Planet Mercenary resources so that others can enjoy them. Please note that each submission will be approved by an admin, so they won't appear instantly.
This project is now complete. We’ll still be monitoring comments and messages, but there won't be further updates to this Kickstarter project. We do not believe that your support of this project gives us blanket permission to email you about other projects, products, or information.
However our work on Planet Mercenary and other creative projects is far from over. If you do want to hear from us about future things, you have several options.
1. If you want to know about are future Kickstarter projects, then login to your Kickstarter account and follow Howard Tayler, Alan Bahr (Gallant Knight Games), or Sandra Tayler (or all three) on Kickstarter. The Kickstarter system will alert you when we have new projects available. Howard and Sandra just ran one for Schlock book 13 and are committed to running another one next February for Schlock Mercenary themed t-shirts. Alan has many game projects in process and upcoming which may interest you.
2. If you want updates on Schlock Mercenary, Planet Mercenary, or things relating to Howard and Sandra, we recommend that you opt in to our shiny new mailing list. This news will land in your email box. We expect the frequency of the newsletters and announcements to be approximately monthly or less frequently than that. The list has a one-click unsubscribe, so if you want off the list later, the process is simple. Sign up for the mailing list.
3. If you want more frequent updates, you can find us on twitter (@howardtayler, @sandratayler, @alanbahr), or on the blog underneath the Schlock comic. Status Report 6: GC Secrets PDF Completed

The GC Secrets PDF is complete. You can download it for free from

It is possible that I'll update the file with minor corrections or tweaks, but the document is done. It was a huge push today since I realized this morning that I had to re-write the origin story. (My first version was boring and truncated.) Also indexes are hard on the eyes in layout, even when zoomed out to a reasonable size.
In the PDF it references a "shared resources" page on planetmercenary.com. That page is not in place yet. My amazing web guy has put it together, I just haven't had time to review it and tell him to make it live. That will be the last piece of items promised with this Kickstarter. I hope to get it in place by the end of the week.

Status Report 5: GC Secrets PDF

Greetings Backers,
This update needs to start with an apology, it is nine days late. The reason is very much like hitting snooze on a morning alarm only to wake up two hours later and discover that you didn't hit snooze, you shut the alarm off instead. I had an alert to write an update Nov 21, but the looming Thanksgiving Holiday and Howard's trip to NASA that same week caused me to fumble the management of that alert. Fortunately an on-the-ball backer nudged me and you're getting an update today.
I've got the final edits back for the GC Secrets PDF. I'm working on layout for it today. I hope to be able to release it to all of you by Monday. I'd say Saturday, except the end of year sales have slammed me with piles of shipping work to do. (For which I'm quite grateful. December sales pay for January and February bills.)
Your next update will be Monday December 4, and hopefully will contain a link to your GC Secrets PDF.

All sections are drafted and the document is in the hands of the editor. Once we get those edits back (hopefully next week,) Sandra will put everything into layout and we'll release the finalized document.

This is a quick update so you know the current status of the GC Secrets PDF.
An essay on Design Philosophy from Alan. (Talking about the decision making process when creating Planet Mercenary.) Got re-drafted and expanded. Now ready for editing.
A full combat example showing how movement, enemy actions, fireteams, area affect weapons, and concealment function in combat. Needs expansion, back in the drafting stage.
Extended Index Complete
Game FAQ (will be partially pulled from Errata document.) Mostly complete & edited.
Additional instructions on generating NPCs. drafted, waiting for editing
Instructions for creating new background packages. drafted, waiting for editing.
Discussion of decision process and challenges in designing AI and Amorph characters. drafted, waiting for editing.
Section on the elements of good storytelling. drafted, but needs expansion and additional drafting.
Sandra is going to a writing retreat this weekend and plans to focus a large portion of her time to getting all the drafting done. The editor is standing by and ready as soon as Sandra is done drafting.
Next update will be Friday, November 10.
